McCarthy Supports Governor’s Move to Stage 2 Reopening for Cecil County

ELKTON, MD. – In response to Governor Hogan’s announcement yesterday afternoon regarding the Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery, County Executive Alan McCarthy has affirmed that Cecil County will continue reopening safely to the guidelines permitted by Governor Hogan and will wholeheartedly follow his lead to begin Stage Two effective 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 5th.
“Moving to Stage Two is a big step for our county and state and I am so very pleased that our small businesses can begin to work on economic recovery,” McCarthy stated. “Please continue to practice safe social distancing and wear masks, but also let’s do everything we can to support our retail stores and restaurants.”
Cecil County Government (CCG) remains committed to protecting the health and welfare of its employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining essential, core services to the constituents of Cecil County. To safely and incrementally move County operations forward, CCG will reopen County work sites to the public, by appointment only, for essential County business. Therefore, the following protocol is effective beginning June 8, 2020, until further notice:
- Public access to County work sites is limited to appointment only, with as much business as possible being conducted electronically or by telephone.
To maximize social distancing, employees in telework-eligible positions are to continue to work remotely as much as possible. Employees in non-telework eligible positions will report to the work site. All employees at work sites are to follow health and safety protocols for COVID-19.
Cecil County Parks & Recreation
In compliance with CDC regulations, as well as the Maryland Recreation & Parks Association, and with the support of Cecil County Health Officer, Cecil County Parks & Recreation will open playgrounds and basketball courts at all county parks beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5th. All playgrounds will be posted: “Use At Your Own Risk. Please Comply with CDC Guidelines.” Athletic fields will be open for practices only and rentals are for use by permit only.
