Cecil County Closures and Updates Due to Novel Coronavirus - Updated for May 10, 2020, 10:00 a.m.

In early March 2020, at the request of County Executive Alan McCarthy, the Cecil County COVID-19 Joint Information Center (JIC) was formed as a means to provide consolidated and thorough information to the citizens of Cecil County. The JIC is comprised of more than 30 public information officials and communication leads for agencies throughout the county. The JIC is led by Jen Lyall, Public Information Officer/Cecil County Government, and Michelle Lloyd, Deputy Emergency Manager/Department of Emergency Services, with the support and direction of Chief Richard Brooks, Director of Emergency Services.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY CECIL CO

ELKTON, MD. – To date, as reported by the Cecil County Health Department, there have been 233 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 14 COVID-19-related deaths in Cecil County. More than half of the confirmed cases have recovered from the virus.

Cecil County CouncilNATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2020
The Cecil County Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed FY 2021 budget on Tuesday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. Because of the current health crisis, the hearing will be held as a virtual meeting, which the public may observe and provide comments by going online to the Council’s webpage at www.ccgov.org/council and selecting “livestream.” Those who do not have broadband may contact the Council Office at 410-996-5201 for instructions on calling into the meeting by telephone.

The public may register to speak in advance by calling the Council Office on May 12th at noon until 6:00 p.m. During the public hearing, names will be called in order that they registered. Anyone who has not pre-registered may have the opportunity to make comments as time allows. Speakers will be limited to 2 minutes and may not speak more than once. Each speaker must state their name and address before making comments. There will be a warning bell when the speaker’s time is up.

During the public hearing, Council Members will not be responding to public comments.

The public hearing will be recorded and uploaded to the Council’s webpage as soon as possible at www.ccgov.org/council.

Governor Hogan’s Covid-19 Response
In a news conference yesterday, Governor Hogan announced resumption of certain activities under the ‘stay at home’ order. Cecil County Parks & Recreation – County and Municipal Parks
Situations and circumstances in regards to COVID-19 restrictions change almost daily. Cecil County Parks and Recreation is working hand in hand with the Cecil County Health Department and the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services to provide constant and consistent guidelines for the safe reopening of public park resources. In light of Governor Hogan’s latest directives regarding recreation/park facilities, and after discussion with Cecil County Health Officer Lauren Levy and Director of Emergency Services Richard Brooks, as well as parks and recreation directors across the state and our municipalities, the County has decided to proceed in the following manner:

  1. Playgrounds remain closed
  2. Basketball courts remain closed
  3. Athletic fields remain closed
  4. Indoor recreation areas remain closed
  5. Restroom facilities, both portable and permanent, are posted: only one user at time.
  6. Pavilion picnic tables are posted: please sanitize before and after use.
  7. Boat ramps and fishing piers are open.

Regular updates as to when and what facilities the County plans to reopen will be provided as they occur. It is important to note that different resources will become available to the public during each phase of the Governors reopening plan.     Cecil County Government
    Though Cecil County work sites remain closed (except for essential employees), we continue to provide many services to the public. Citizens who have questions regarding Cecil County Government services should call 410-996-5200, and follow the directions given. The vestibule at the Administration Building remains open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to allow for drop-off and pick-ups for Permits, Finance, Housing, Purchasing, Land Use, and Public Works. Please make sure your documents are clearly marked with name/organization and contact information.

  • All Cecil County Solid Waste Management Division facilities are open for normal operations. This includes the Central Landfill, Woodlawn, and Stemmers Run Transfer Stations.
  • In addition, citizens are reminded that they can access the www.ccgov.org website, and follow on social media, to obtain further information and direction on items of interest.

COVID-19 continues to be a community-spread pandemic. Please remain vigilant and safe in your day-to-day activities as every person we come in contact with is a potential risk to our health. Please stay home when possible, continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands often, sanitize frequently Touched surfaces, and sneeze/cough into a tissue or your elbow.
