Cecil County Reports First Case of COVID-19

In light of Governor Hogan's recent announcement to hold a press conference at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 23rd, County Executive McCarthy and Health Officer Lauren Levy will move their press conference to 1:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon via Facebook Live on the Cecil County Government Facebook page.

ELKTON, MD. – Cecil County was notified of its first positive case of COVID-19. The patient is a female in her 20s who lives in the western area of the county. The individual has no history of recent foreign travel or known contact with anyone who traveled.
The Cecil County Health Department is working with the patient and the Maryland Department of Health to conduct contact tracing. This process will help to identify any people the individual has had close contact with recently. The individual is in stable condition and will be self-isolating at home. In order to protect the patient’s privacy, the County will not be releasing any additional details about the individual.
“Cecil County has taken a proactive role to address the threat that COVID-19 presents to the health of our community,” stated County Executive Alan McCarthy. “This first confirmed case serves as an important reminder that good hygiene practices and social distancing are critical to slowing the spread of the coronavirus in our communities. I encourage all residents to stay at home as much as possible and wash their hands frequently.”
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you are experiencing any symptoms, please contact your primary care provider for assessment.

The Cecil County Health Department has also established a dedicated phone line for individuals to call with COVID-19-related questions.
