Cecil County Recycling Coordinator Elected President of Maryland Recycling Network

Elkton, MD – Mrs. Tanya Adams, Recycling Coordinator for the Solid Waste Management Division of the Cecil County Department of Public Works, was elected President of the Maryland Recycling Network (MRN) at MRN's annual meeting held at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum, Maryland on June 16, 2011 as part of MRN's annual joint conference with the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).

During her one-year term of office, Mrs. Adams will preside at all general membership meetings and lead MRN's 17-member Board of Directors in overseeing the organization's affairs. Mrs. Adams has been a member of MRN for five years and served on the Board of Directors for two years prior to being elected President.  She has worked for the County's Solid Waste Management Division for a total of 11 years, the last five as Recycling Coordinator.

The Maryland Recycling Network, with over 80 members, is headquartered in Columbia, Maryland.  It is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization incorporated in Maryland specifically to promote the sustainable reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials otherwise destined for disposal. Its membership is comprised of representatives from private industry, education and other public institutions, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and private citizens who share a commitment to recycling. MRN seeks to accomplish its mission through education, policy development and promotion, technical assistance, and the development of markets for recycled materials. Additional information about MRN is available on-line at www.MarylandRecyclingNetwork.org.

"Tanya Adams has done a fantastic job of developing and promoting Cecil County's award-winning recycling program," said Scott Flanigan, County Director of Public Works, "and I know she will do an equally great job leading the Maryland Recycling Network as its President."
