Neighborhood Youth Panel (example) Sanctions
- Write an essay on the effects of drugs or tobacco (crime, juvenile delinquency, etc.).
- Write an essay on what it means to be responsible.
- Write an essay of what effect this offense has had on you and your family.
- Visit the library with a legal citation and copy that statute (given #) of times, legibly and in your own handwriting.
- Draw a picture or make a collage about what happens if you break the law (or what can happen if you do not break the law).
- Make a poster or banner that discourages delinquent behavior and/or encourages positive behavior.
- Create a plan for your life (1 year, 5 year, or 10 year plans), stating specific goals that you have set for yourself and how you plan to carry them out. You may use pictures, charts or other visual aids to develop your plan.
- Read an age-appropriate book (of your choice) and write a book report.
- Attend a (a given # of) Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
- Complete a substance abuse assessment or screening/ and follow recommended treatment.
- Pay restitution to the victim.
- Write a letter of apology to the victim.
- Complete (a given # of) community service hours.
- Conduct a food or clothing drive.
- Clean the neighborhood or block.
- Volunteer at Boys and Girls Club.
- Do landscaping for senior citizens in the area.
- Volunteer at church activities/programs.
- Volunteer as peer tutor.
- Lead an after-school program/group.
- Create a plan for a service project that your community needs.
- Attend an Anger Management Group.
- Attend a Conflict Resolution Workshop.
- Attend a life skills training course or gender-specific group (i.e. Y-W.I.N.).
- Attend a Prison Tour (Student Visitation Program) or a Shock Trauma Tour.
- Attend a victim awareness program.
- Adhere to a curfew (e.g. 7:00p.m. week nights and 8:00p.m. weekends).
Basic Mandatory sanctions for all juveniles sitting before the NYP
- Attend school/educational program daily;
- Obey the directives of parents/guardians;
- Complete household chores/responsibilities;
- Adhere to curfew established by parent/guardian;
- Avoid future delinquent behavior.
Parents/guardians of youth sitting before the NYP will:
- Provide proper care and supervision for the youth;
- Make every reasonable effort to ensure the youth conforms to these voluntary agreements.
