Elk River Park Groundbreaking
On Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. members of the Parks and Recreation Board, a County Commissioner, Eagle Scouts, and Parks & Recreation (P&R) staff gathered to kick-off a project that will provide substantial improvements to the 69-acre Elk River Park located at 32 River Bend Parkway in Elkton. Funds will be used in the Elk River Park for a new bulkhead, double boat ramp, entrance road, parking area, storm water management, and landscaping. The County shall receive $1,186,640 in funding, $889,980 U.S. Department of the Interior Wildlife & Sport Fish Restoration Program, and $296,660 from Maryland's Waterway Improvement Program. Additional funding for engineering has been provided by Maryland's Program Open Space and the county.
The contract was awarded to Baltimore Pile Driving and Marine Construction, Inc, White Hall, MD, and the contractor has 160 days to complete the project. The design engineer is Andrews, Miller, & Associates and the contract management engineer is Century Engineering. In addition to this contract, Scout projects completed on the property include a pavilion, swing set, and park clean up of old appliances and debris.
