2008 Cecil County's Volunteer of the Year

On Tuesday February 10, 2009, the Board of County Commissioners recognized volunteers from throughout the county at the Cecil County Beautiful Volunteer Recognition Event held at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun.  Our 2008 Cecil County Volunteer of the Year, Sarah Colenda, is described as enthusiastic, gracious, passionate, and optimistic.  A Cecil County native, she lends her talent to help youth in the community through the Cecil College Board of Trustee, Board of Directors for the YMCA, Cecil County Fair Board and as the Program Director for the Boys Scouts Round Table.  She serves the business community through the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce, Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway, North East Rotary, Perryville Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland Farm Bureau, and the County's Comprehensive Plan Review Committee. 

Sarah is the founder of the Women Who Walk, a group that organizes walks and disseminates information related to womens' health issues.  Once you meet her, you will never forget her unwavering resolve to ensure that she represents the citizens and our county to the best of her ability.  The Board of County Commissioners' is proud to honor Sarah Colenda as the 2008 Cecil County Volunteer of the Year and recognize her commendable record of community service to the citizens of our county.

On Tuesday February 10, 2009, the Board of County Commissioners recognized volunteers from throughout the county at the Cecil County Beautiful Volunteer Recognition Event held at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun.  Volunteers are nominated by their peers, and recognized with a certificate and gift at the annual event.  A selection committee had the difficult task of choosing the Volunteer of the Year.  The Board takes this opportunity to thank this year's sponsors from the business community who made the annual event possible (see list below).
