Becoming An Election Judge

 Dear Voter:

We appreciate your interest in becoming an Election Judge.  Election Judges are individuals who staff the polling places and are responsible for administering the voting procedures in the polling places on Election Day. Two Chief Judges in each polling place are the supervisory officials responsible for ensuring that the election process is managed fairly and in accordance with State and Federal law. Election Judges have many responsibilities and perform various task on Election Day that are delegated by the Chief Judges.

Election Judges are appointed to serve approximately two years and are expected to serve as an Election Judge for all elections that are held during that period. Election Judges serve on Election Day from 6:00 A.M. until all duties are completed after the polls close at 8:00 P.M. (approximately 15 hours or more).

An Election Judge may not leave the polling place at any time, therefore arrangements must be made in advance for meals, medication, etc.  A mandatory training class (approximately two hours)  is required prior to the Primary Election. Compensation for training will not be paid if the judge refuses to serve on Election Day unless excused by the Board of Elections.

Please check the Election Calendar for the Primary and General Election dates.

If you are interested, please complete the application and return it to this office as soon as possible. You will be notified if a vacancy is available.

If you have any questions, please contact the Election Board office at 410-996-5310.
