Signs of failing septic systems

A malfunctioning septic system is a public health hazard as it will ultimately result in degradation of water quality. A malfunctioning septic system may result in pollutants entering the stormwater system. Repairing problems will protect yourself, your friends and your county. The following is a list of signs a malfunctioning septic system:

  • Slowly draining sinks and toilets
  • Plumbing backups
  • Gurgling in the plumbing
  • Damp soil or ponding over the drain system in the yard
  • Grass growing faster and greener in the area of the drain system compared to the rest of the yard
  • Sewage odor near the system
