2010 Annual Cecil County Wade In
July 10, 2010The Board of County Commissioners are proud to announce that the First Annual Wade-in was held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at North Bay Environmental Center in North East.
The free event was open to the public and nearly 200 participants were encouraged to roll up their pant legs and wade into the Upper Chesapeake Bay to measure the water quality using the "sneaker index", an unscientific, but effective method made popular by retired Maryland State Senator Bernie Fowler. Other events included education about water quality, and the land and aquatic animals in the area. Over twenty exhibitors participated in the event, and exhibitions were provided on seine netting and bird banding.
The event was hosted by the Cecil County Sediment and Stormwater Branch of the Public Works Department, North Bay, and the Upper Western Shore Tributary Team. President Lockhart stated, "It was great turn out for the County's first event. It was fun for all ages, and we hope more people will get involved next year."
