Solid Waste Management Division

The Cecil County Solid Waste Management Division is the second largest operational division within the Department of Public Works. A total of 23 positions are needed during two operational shifts to operate the County's two satellite solid waste transfer stations and the central landfill facility at 758 E. Old Philadelphia Road. Job duties vary, including Laborer, Operators, Weighmasters, Transfer Station Operators, Crew Leaders, Office Services Specialist, Chief, Assistant Chief, and Recycling Coordinator.

The primary services provided by the Solid Waste Management Division include daily processing of Cecil County's solid waste stream, implementing Cecil County's Waste Recycling Program, and vigilant monitoring of the environmental site characteristics at the Central Landfill site.

The Central Landfill and Transfer Stations are closed on the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

 

New Homeowner Convenience Center Now Open
Our new Homeowner Convenience Center located at the Central Landfill is now open.   This area provides residents with a larger, well organized place to recycle and dispose of refuse.  Trash Bash, our Grand Opening took place on Saturday, May 24, 2008 where over 800 residents used this new facility.  

Woodlawn Transfer Station Renovation Regulations
From February 4, 2008 until May 15, 2008, or until renovations are completed, there will be some changes to regulations.  Woodlawn Transfer Station will continue to accept refuse and recyclables; however, THERE WILL BE A 10 BAG LIMIT ON TRASH DURING CONSTRUCTION.   Rules and Regulations may be subject to additional changes in acceptance of materials due to the circumstances of construction.  We apologize for this inconvenience due to progress.

Refuse Disposal Permit
Temporary residents with out of state licenses may receive a refuse disposal permit at no charge.  Permits are issued at the Cecil County Central Landfill.  A Cecil County property tax receipt is needed as proof of residency in order to issue this permit.  Cecil County residents that are members of the armed forces with out of state licenses should call 410-996-6275 for information on obtaining a permit.
