Addendum #3

November 5, 2007

1.  Addendum #3 dated November 5, 2007, is issued as part of the Contract Document, to inform and/or specify changes, which take precedence over information contained in the original Contract Documents and/or previous addenda. Unless otherwise specifically noted or specified hereinafter, or shown on drawings or schedules accompanying this Addendum, all work required by this Addendum shall conform to the applicable provisions of the Contract Documents. It shall be the responsibility of the Bidder to include in his bid any cost implications of this Addendum. All bidders are to indicate on the form of proposal submitted by them, acknowledgement of receipt and compliance with the contents of this Addendum #3.

2.  Any provision in any of the Contract Documents, which may be in conflict or be inconsistent with the contents of this Addendum, shall be void to the extent of such conflict or inconsistency. 

3. Clarification of Bid Documents - The following clarifications to the specifications for Bid Item No. 8 - 8' Chain Link Fencing & Gates are provided and shall supersede previous specifications provided in the Special Provisions when applicable:

A. Fence Fabric shall be 2-inch mesh woven from No. 6 gauge, zinc coated steel wire conforming to the requirements of State of Maryland DOT SHA Specification Section 914 and AASHTO M181, Type I with Class B coating. Fence Fabric shall have a height of 8 feet. 

B. Fabric shall be fastened to line posts by means of No. 6 gauge zinc coated wire clips 12 inches on center, and to terminal posts by means of 3/16 x 3/4 inch zinc coated stretcher bars with 1/8 x 1-inch chain link bands.

C. Posts and Braces shall conform to ANSI/ASTM A-120 for zinc coated steel pipe.

D. Line posts shall be 2.375 inch O.D. weighing 3.65 pounds per foot. Line posts shall not be placed more than 10 feet on center. Line posts shall be set in concrete to a minimum depth of 3 feet. Concrete shall be allowed to cure for a minimum of 72 hours prior to the attachment of any other fence items to the post. 

E. Terminal and gate posts shall be 2.875 inch O.D. weighing 5.79 pounds per foot. Terminal and gate posts shall be set in concrete to a minimum depth of 4 feet. Concrete shall be allowed to cure for a minimum of 72 hours prior to the attachment of any other fence items to the post.  f. Pipe truss braces shall be 1.66 inch O.D. weighing 2.27 pounds per foot. 

G. Truss rods used with braces shall be 5/16 inch diameter with burnbuckle zinc coated in conformance with ASTM A-153 Class B.1.

H. Gate frames shall be constructed of 2.375 inch O.D. pipe members welded at all corners and intersecting cross members to form a heavy constructed rigid gauge panel. Vertical members of gate leaves shall be spaced so that no members are more than 8 feet apart. Gates frames shall be braced with a diagonal truss rod and gate frames over 10 feet wide shall be additionally braced with a 3/8-inch, minimum diameter, diagonal truss rod. Fabric for gates shall be the same as specified above. Gates shall be equipped with all necessary hardware as applicable.

I. Adjustments to fence alignment and/or gate alignment from that shown on the site drawing may be necessary and will be allowed to accommodate the use of single cantilevered sliding gates as specified in Addendum #1.  Any adjustment to the fence alignment must be submitted to the County's onsite representative for approval prior to fence installation.
