Dispatcher I / Call Taker

Cecil County Department of Emergency Services is seeking to fill Dispatcher I / Call Taker positions for its 9-1-1 call center. Starting salary is $29, 266 /yr. This is an hourly rate of $14.07. Work 12 hour rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends. Overtime is available and the position includes excellent benefits!

Duties:  Taking incoming calls, both emergency and non-emergency, from citizens and notifying appropriate agencies including law enforcement, medical, and fire rescue personnel for response using voice and computer based systems. Additional functions include prioritizing calls made to the call center and communicating to the proper departmental agencies; efficiently transferring calls between agencies utilizing telecommunications equipment such as computer, fax, phone, headset, etc.; effectively maintain confidentiality with all information.

Position Requirements:  High School Diploma or GED. Good knowledge of the geography of Cecil County subdivisions and roadway systems. Strong communication skills; experience with a computer; ability to multi-task, read and interpret maps and to remain calm in emergency situations. Must pass thorough background investigation. A valid driver's licence is required.
