MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH

June 5, 2007

            The Cecil County Board of Health met in the County Administrative Building, 107 North Street, Elkton, Maryland on Tuesday, June 5, 2007.  The following members of the Board were present:

             William C. Manlove, President

            Mark H. Guns, Vice President

            Rebecca Demmler, Commissioner

            Brian Lockhart, Commissioner

            Dr. Virginia Bailey

 

            Constituting a majority Board.

 

            The Cecil County Health Department's quarterly report for the Third Quarter, January - March 2007 was presented.

             The Alcohol & Drug Center has partnered with Narcotics Anonymous to start a Young Persons Narcotics anonymous support group meeting, "Grow in Recovery", which began in February.  Meetings are held on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. at the Health Department and are open to the public.

             The WIC Program has partnered with the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program of the Cooperative Extension Service to guide their group nutrition counseling.  The program will focus on providing education services to the public.

             The Environmental Health Services wet season testing concluded during this quarter.  As a result of favorable conditions, all testing was completed this year.

             The Health Department will again be collecting water samples and evaluating water quality at public swimming areas during the summer months.  A total of 18 beaches will be sampled in 2007, with the North East River Beach at Elk Neck State Park and Carpenters Point Beach designated as high priority.  Four beaches are designated as medium priority and 12 beaches as low priority.
