Commissioners Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2012

PRESENT: Commissioners Mullin, Broomell, Moore, Dunn and Hodge, and County Administrator Al Wein.

10:00 a.m. – President Mullin called the meeting to order.

Tourism Discussion

Commissioner Moore introduced an e-mail communication from Deb Carter, Chair of the Tourism Advisory Committee relating to a proposal to make tourism and related functions a separate County government department.

The Board reached a consensus to authorize President Mullin to advise Tourism Coordinator Sandy Turner that the Board has concurred to not separate tourism and relative functions from the Office of Economic Development at this time.  Additionally, the Board requested to have staff schedule meetings with the Tourism Advisory Committee on a quarterly basis during the Board's Tuesday afternoon sessions.

President Mullin advised that he would speak with Ms. Turner to convey the Board's direction in these matters as quickly as possible.

Commissioner Moore presented information from a constituent relating to a Trap, Neuter and Release program for cats. Historical information was presented regarding previous proposals and the current TNR program that is being conducted at the Perryville Town Park.

Commissioner Moore was encouraged to contact town officials and Dr. Mindy Carletti relative to this program.

CLOSED SESSION10:45  a.m.

On motion made by Commissioner Moore, seconded by Commissioner Broomell the Board moved to convene in closed session pursuant to Maryland Annotated Code State Government 10-508(a) (1) To discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, demotion, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of appointees, employees, or officials over whom it has jurisdiction, or any other personnel matter that affects one or more specific individuals relative to the appointment and compensation of a Director for the Office of Economic Development. Motion carried unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT  11:00 a.m.

On motion made by Commissioner Moore, seconded by Commissioner Dunn, the Board moved to adjourn the closed session meeting. Motion to adjourn carried unanimously.
