    Message from the County Executive for June 29, 2018

    Cecil County Citizens: The Maryland Primary Election was held these past two weeks with early voting and then the official Election Day, Tuesday June 26th. Acknowledging the negative first, the turnout was low in Cecil County with just under 20% of eligible voters casting their ballots. I know there are numerous reasons why citizens cannot get to the polls but given the alternative of one week of early voting access, the turnout was extremely disappointing.

    ELKTON, MD. -- Cecil County Department of Community Services (DCS) will sponsor Cecil Cares 2018 on Saturday, September 22nd. The countywide day of service, now in its third year, will offer Cecil County residents the opportunity to volunteer their time, energy and skills with local organizations (nonprofits, faith based/service organizations, government agencies) on a variety of hands-on service projects around the county.

    On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 Legislative Session Day 2018-12, the County Council of Cecil County Enacted: Bill No. 2018-05 Amendment – Capital Budget FY 2018 – Wastewater Capital Project – Grant Award – Construct CECO to Cherry Hill Connection. A Bill to amend the Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance for Cecil County, Maryland for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018 in order to provide grant appropriation authority from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) of $2,850,000 to the Wastewater Capital Improvement Program for the construction of a force main and pump station to connect the sewer collection system in Manchester Park (CECO Utilities, Inc.) to the Cherry Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant. Effective Date 08/20/2018

    ELKTON, MD. -- This past Tuesday, Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) students, Brie Tulowitzky and Alan Salisbury, completed a capstone project along with more than 215 enthusiastic students -- Pre-K through third grade -- at Elk Neck Elementary School. Staff from the Department of Public Works Engineering and Construction and Stormwater Management Divisions, as well as local landscaping company, Barksdale Nursery, collaborated on the grant funded project.

    Dear Cecil County Citizens, Last night, during the County Council’s Legislative Session, the members adopted several bills and one resolution that sets the path forward for Fiscal Year 2019, which commences on July 1, 2018. Included in their actions, were the Capital Improvement Plan for FY 2019 ($32,271,000) and the Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance – FY 2019 ($274,718,426). In addition, the Council adopted the tax rate ($1.0414 per $100 assessed value) for FY 2019, which remains unchanged from this year.
