ANNAPOLIS, MD – Medline, a global manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies and clinical solutions, is nearly tripling its footprint in Maryland with the construction of a 1.1 million square-foot distribution center in the Principio Business Park in Perryville. The new distribution center, which will replace the company’s current Havre de Grace facility, will be LEED-certified and is expected to create more than 200 new jobs over the next six years, which, when combined with their current workforce, will provide jobs for more than 300 local residents.
In accordance with §97-14 of the Code of Cecil County, the Cecil County Department of Public Works will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 7 PM. in the Elk Room of the Cecil County Administration Building, 200 Chesapeake Blvd, Elkton, Maryland regarding Phases 1 and 2A of the proposed “Construct Elkton West Sanitary Sewer Subdistrict” Wastewater Capital Improvement Plan project (Project # 55064).

County Executive Alan McCarthy, through his execution of Executive Order No. 2017-03, awarded today the $47,645,000 of Consolidated Public Improvement and Refunding Bonds of 2017 at a TIC (True Interest Cost) of 2.735834%. $33.5 million of this issuance will fund FY 2017 and FY 2018 Capital Improvement Program projects. The balance involved a refunding that netted a savings of approximately $700,000 in future debt service payments. The successful bidder was Morgan Stanley & Co., LLC.

A well-managed budget, including not having to draw from the fund balance to cover normal operating expenses, had a lot to do with Cecil County's 2017 bond ratings as reported to the Office of Administration recently.

Cecil County Tourism attended the annual Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit and brought home an award for the Best Printed Promotional Material of 2017. The award recognized the county’s new nature brochure which was created to lure visitors seeking an outdoor experience.

Beginning in early December, Cecilton residents will have a new option for travel to Middletown, Delaware. Cecil Transit, a division of Cecil County's Department of Community Services, has added a new "Demand Response" route that will run twice a month from Cecilton to Middletown and back. The new route will allow residents to schedule pick-ups and travel to prime retail areas in Middletown giving them more access to healthcare facilities and retail shopping.

Cecil County Government is pleased to announce that a 1.2 million dollar investment to permanently protect 398 acres in Cecil County has been approved by the Maryland Board of Public Works. The property owned by Losten's Dairy, LP is located northwest corner of Augustine Herman Highway (MD 213) and Town Point Road will be protected by the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF).

If you happened to be in the area of Calvert Regional Park this past weekend, you might have noticed the enormous crowd and heavier-than-normal traffic. With back-to-back lacrosse tournaments scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, the recreational facility, managed by Cecil County Parks and Recreation, welcomed more than 10,000 players and fans and over 100 teams to the area.

Today, Cecil County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) kicked off their No Shave November campaign allowing deputies to violate their grooming policy for the entire month after making a voluntary contribution. This marks the third year CCSO has taken part in #NoShaveNovember and the second year raising money specifically for Camp Open Arms.

National Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, October 28th and Cecil County is ready with eight designated collection locations, including one drop-off site at Elkton High School -- in conjunction with Restore Church's annual Trunk-or-Treat event and a community health fair.

Town mayors and community leaders met with County Executive Dr. Alan McCarthy and Director of Administration Al Wein, as well as other County representatives, last week to extend the offer to open up opportunities for more collaborations between the individual towns and Cecil County Government.
