FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEED RURAL DEV AWARD 2019
December 12, 2019

ELKTON, MD. – Last evening, the Cecil County Office of Economic Development (OED) was the recipient of the “Outstanding Rural Economic Development” award from the Rural Maryland Council (RMC). The honor was presented at the Rural Impact Awards ceremony during the RMC Annual Meeting in Annapolis, MD.

Bruce England, Executive Director of Susquehanna Workforce Network, submitted the nomination to the RMC in recognition of the OED’s continuous and noteworthy achievements which help improve economic development opportunities in Cecil County.

Recipients of this award successfully attract, retain or create jobs in a rural county in relation to the community’s economic development objectives; demonstrate innovative techniques that address challenging economic development situations; and utilize synergistic partnerships to leverage resources and achieve their business development goals.

“It’s truly an honor for the Cecil County Office of Economic Development to be recognized statewide for its efforts. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” said Chris Moyer, OED Director. “Much appreciation to our colleague and business partner, Bruce England, for the nomination.”

The RMC provides a venue for members of agriculture and natural resource-based industries, health care facilities, educational institutions, economic and community development organizations, for-profit and nonprofit corporations, and government agencies to cross traditional boundaries, share information, and address in a more holistic way the special needs and opportunities in Rural Maryland.

“People across the state and the region are taking notice of the great things happening here in Cecil County. Our economic development team is very deserving of this award,” said County Executive Alan McCarthy. “I could not be more proud of their accomplishments.”
