Cecil County Historic District Commission Seeks Nominees
ELKTON, MD – Charged with informing and educating residents about the historic and architectural heritage of the County, the Cecil County Historic District Commission is currently seeking owners interested in nominating their property for designation as a historic district.
With 31 locally designated historic districts, Cecil County’s program provides tax credits for approved restoration efforts.
“Local designation is the only designation that provides protection from demolition,” said Patricia Folk, chairperson of the HDC. “Even if your sole interest is the tax credit, anyone considering doing work on an older home should consider designation.”
Found throughout all parts of Cecil County, historic districts include homes, bridges, churches, and even a cemetery. Not only preserving the County’s historic heritage, these districts exemplify the exceptional architectural, cultural, and archaeological history of Cecil County.
