DES Offering Car Seat Safety Checks, Public Safety Education
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 13, 2018
ELKTON, MD. – Since 2012, Cecil County Department of Emergency Services (DES) has been providing Free Car Seat Checks to the citizens of Cecil County, and local communities to ensure our children are traveling safely.
The Child Passenger Safety Program holds car seat checks once a month and rotates between the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun and William M. Singerly Fire Company in Elkton.
Cecil County currently has five nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians that provide one-on-one instruction on how to install and utilize child car seat/booster properly.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide (www.safekids.org), “when installed and used correctly, child safety seats decrease the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent among infants, 54 percent among toddlers and 45 percent among children ages 4-8.”
The next car seat check is set for December 17th at the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, located at 300 Joseph Biggs Hwy., from 2-5PM. Inspections take approximately 30 minutes per car seat and drivers should bring the car seat and vehicle owners’ manuals, if possible.
In addition to providing free seat checks, DES can also provide informational displays for community events throughout Cecil County, including a Heatstroke prevention display.
