Elkton, MD. -- Cecil County Tourism attended the annual Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit and brought home an award for the Best Printed Promotional Material of 2017. The award recognized the county’s new nature brochure which was created to lure visitors seeking an outdoor experience.

“We hope to capture the attention of nature lovers and give them a glimpse of our scenery, trails and more. Our goal is to entice them to visit Cecil County and to spend money in our business community.  It’s such an honor to receive this award from the Maryland Tourism Coalition," said Tourism Manager Sandy Maruchi-Turner.

It took many months to collect the volume of photos needed to complete the design which is focused on eye catching imagery.  Another important element is informing nature lovers about tourist attractions near the trails and parks. As with all tourism efforts, the goal is to generate economic impact for the county while visitors are experiencing nature.

The brochure includes examples of trails throughout the county, wildlife highlights, nearby attractions, paddling options and an abundance of colorful images. The project was completed with assistance from nature attractions, regional photographers, a corporate sponsor, and an energetic subcommittee.

PNC Bank sponsored the cost of the project and viewed participation as a way to support tourism, which provides a positive economic impact on Cecil County, and to be informative about the beauty of the county. “PNC Bank is committed to the community. This wonderful brochure not only promotes our community’s natural assets to visitors, but also provides locals with information about attractions in their own back yard. We are very pleased to have supported this impressive Cecil County Tourism brochure,” stated Vanessa Brown, PNC’s Corporate Sales Development Consultant.

A small sub-committee of tourism volunteers and tourism staff worked on the project.  Volunteers Rupert Rossetti and Vanessa Brown were instrumental in helping make this brochure happen. “We couldn’t have done it without them” added Maruchi- Turner. "It has been marvelous working on the brochure, and realizing just how rich and varied our options are for enjoying nature," added committee member Rupert Rossetti.
